On the 22th of May the research master DaSCA celebrated it’s 10th anniversary. The event took place in the Botanic Gardens at the Uithof and was organized by Inge van der Valk, Suze van Wijngaarden, and Loes Janssen. Alumni, current students, and DaSCA teachers were invited to join this celebration. A lot of them were present at the event, so the turnout was great.
The main themes of the celebration and reunion were: looking back upon the past ten years of DaSCA, inspire people, and creating a network. There were speeches from Prof dr. Wim Meeus, founder of DaSCA and past program director, and from Prof dr. Maja Deković, present program director. The program also included an alumni carousel, in which several DaSCA alumni gave speeches. Helle Larsen, Esmee Verhulp, Sasja Schepers, Suzan Doornwaard, Roos Hutteman, and Rens van de Schoot) told about their experiences during DaSCA and about how their career since then had expired. Mariëlle Zondervan-Zwijnenburg presented the Alumini monitor, and gave a nice overview of all DaSCA students. Also, the DaSCA network was presented, which aims to stimulate mutual exchange between past and present DaSCA students and teachers.
The event was accompanied by some drinks, a tasty buffet, and live music from some extraordinary artists of United by Music. This is a non-profit organization that supports talented people with intellectual disabilities, and gives them a chance to perfom for a large audience. These artists presented songs in the blues- and swing style (www.unitedbymusic.nl).
The nice atmosphere, inspiring speeches, and enthusiastic participation of everyone present at the celebration contributed to a succesfull anniversary of DaSCA.
